Introduction to two printing methods for book printing

According to the relationship between the printing plate and the substrate, printing is mainly in two ways: pressure printing and pressureless printing.

1. Contact stamping printing

Contact embossed printing is a printing technique based on the use of pressure, the use of printing plates or other means to transfer the graphic information on the original to the substrate. Contact embossed printing is also a traditional printing method. It uses ink or coloring pigments, and uses printing machinery to reproduce images and text on the surface of paper or other materials. According to the printing process, the printing process generally includes five elements such as originals, plates, substrates, inks, and printing machines.

According to the form of the printing plate, contact embossing printing mainly includes four categories of letterpress, gravure, lithographic, and stencil printing. According to the printing procedure, the above four printing methods are different from direct printing and indirect printing. Application areas also have different classification habits. China generally divides this into press printing, publishing and printing (including books and magazines), packaging and decoration printing, securities printing, stationery printing, and parts printing.

2. Non-contact printing

Non-contact printing, also known as pressureless printing, is a printing technique based on the use of no pressure. It is a new form of printing that has emerged with the development of electronic computer output technology. Instead of using traditional plates, it uses thermal, electrostatic, magnetic, or ink-jet technology under the control of a computer to deliver toner or droplets of ink to the surface of the substrate, or to color a specially crafted paper to form a clear graphic. . Non-contact printing has the characteristics of reliable operation, no noise, compact equipment, high speed, easy operation and wide application range. It is particularly suitable for copying in the office environment and outputting hard copies for information network systems, providing a small number of various documents and materials.

Non-pressure printing includes laser (electrostatic) printing, ink jet printing, thermal printing, and magnetic printing. Among them, the former two are widely used non-pressure printing methods.
